During the 53-year investigation, grip strength, standing balance, and chair rise times were measured as indicators of strength and physical performance.

Furthermore, the result revealed that those participants who were more active at all three age categories showed better performance on the chair-rise test. Meanwhile, persons who were 43 and 53 had better performance on the standing balance test, even after adjusting for varieties. However, physical activity and grip strength were not associated in both men and women at their 30's and 40's.

According to the investigators, the findings suggest that physical activity should be promoted at all times to have functional health and quality of life as old age advances especially when the degree of activity performed as we age becomes tougher and more strenuous.
