In the study being published in the American Heart Journal, it was concluded that it was found out that having Coronary Heart Disease in one of both parents puts one a higher risk to develop the said disease.

Basing on the data from the Swedish multi-generation register and in-patient care register, the study was furthered. They included 80,214 people, including biological and adoptive parents, born in 1932 or later, who developed CHD from 1973 to 2008. The result was incomparable wherein those individuals who had at least one biological parent with coronary heart disease had a 40-60% higher risk of developing it compared to those individuals with both adoptive parents had the disease that had no risk at all.

According to the researchers, the results of the study suggest that hereditary factors play a role in coronary heart disease and not transferred via an unhealthy lifestyle in the family, but rather via the genes although the fact has not been established so far. They also pointed out that it does not mean that one's lifestyle is not a factor in one's own risk of developing coronary heart disease.
